About HomingPigeons.com. Who is running the site and why? What are the benefits of joining?

Hello! My name is Douglas Wilson, and I come from Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

A lot of my childhood revolved around pigeon racing. My dad and his friends were all pigeon men. There must have been around 10-12 pigeon men just in our village. Pigeon racing was a popular hobby in mining villages for whatever reason.

I can still remember the joy on everyone's face when I passed my driving test: finally, I'd be able to take the pigeons away on a training toss!

Life took me to the city of Edinburgh and beyond, and my dad gave up racing pigeons in his early 60s, having kept them from the age of 14.

Since then, I have often looked back fondly at the sport. It was a real community and a source of many laughs. These days, I don't think many people have the same sort of passion for their hobby.

I have participated (without success!) in some One Loft Racing, and I decided to put my skills (such as they are) to good use. I'm trying to put all the relevant information in one place, and I hope I can help some people to start the hobby.

If you join as a member, you'll get full access to the website as well as email newsletters about new content when it's available. In time, I will try to put absolutely everything on the site, from race results to loft management software.

It's free to join. It costs money to host the website and to run Coo-gle (my pigeon-themed AI - you can ask it any question by clicking on the chat icon), so at some point I might add some adverts in to the site to cover my costs.
